Pen and Ink with Watercolor Painting of A Meadow and Trees, 5.5" x 7.5", Matted to 8" x 10"

"Evening on the Meadow"SOLD

I rarely paint in pen and ink anymore but it used to be something I enjoyed doing a lot. A bit like doodling but more detailed. In fact, it's so different from my usual stuff that I post here, that I decided to sign it with my maiden name.
This little watercolor is already matted to an 8" x 10" standard size and will easily fit in a picture frame.

You are so talented. This is a really beautiful piece - hope to see more pen and inks!

Susan, what is matted?

"Matted" would be "Mat" as in a piece of art work that has had a "Mat Board" cut for it. I could be wrong here. Perhaps it's only one "t" when used as a direct object. But that looks like "Mate" with a "d" to me.

OK think I've got it. We maybe call it a mount! Or is that different?

Well done on the sale.

No. A mount is when you affix a piece of artwork to a substrate like archival heavy weight rag paper, or canvas to a piece of masonite to give it more body or stiffness. Matting looks like a border or frame around artwork that is then placed under glass and framed. It's often in colors complimentary to the artwork but lots of artists just mat or double mat in white.
