I'm a recent graduate of Georgetown Atelier in Seattle, Washington and have just started to compile a new body of work. Much of what you see here prior to 2022 is older work and hopefully you'll note an improvement. Because I paint both in Contemporary Alla Prima (fast small and larger works) and polished realism, both categories are listed as tabs beneath this section. Stay tuned. I'm a work in progress.

Oil Painting of Poppies and Yellow Vase, 9" x 12" on Canvas Panel

One of my students forgot her reference material and asked if I would do a demonstration of how I paint my daily pieces. So here it is. Quick, but fun.
Your paintings are wonderful! My aspirations are to paint the sort of things like you're painting, and to paint them quickly too! Do you really paint 4-5 paintings a week? That's incredible. I'm slow!
I'm working on an oil painting (I'm a novice) of picture of my grandfather from WWII. It's my first attempt at glazing. I'm posting my progress on my blog. Any helpful hints would be appreciated.
Hey Chris. I applaud your attempts at glazing. I did a lot of glazing when I first got started in painting and you can learn a lot about color this way. Most of what I do for daily painting is "direct" or "ala prima" where the work is mixed on the palette. But I still enjoy glazing and do quite a bit of it in my more developed work. I'll be adding some smaller versions of these pieces for direct sale here on the blog. Check out my teaching blog at www.musensbysusan.blogspot.com.
